In the Woods with My Father
My father taught me to hunt at a young age. I cherished the time that he and I spent in the woods and fields together. He also taught me that the outdoor experience provides a backdrop and a basis for understanding our Heavenly Father’s power and the depth of his love for us.
The beautiful wildlife that was created to perfectly blend in with the woods, the colors of the fall leaves, the smell of autumn in the air, and the sound of water rushing over the rocks – all were created for man to use and enjoy, and as resources to sustain life.
My father also taught me that the only way to understand life and live it to the fullest was to know Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior. This is one thing however, that he could not do for me. Even thought I fell short almost everyday of how I should be living and strengthening my relationship with Jesus Christ, both my earthly father and my heavenly father never gave up on me.
My earthly father has been in his glorious heavenly home for almost twenty years, but there is not a hunting season that goes by that I don’t think about our time together in the woods, and thank God for those special times.
I still head to the woods every fall, but now it’s with my sons and my Heavenly Father. The trophies we take while hunting in the woods or fishing in the mountain streams are only temporary. The only real trophy is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
I pray that you spent time in the woods with our Heavenly Father and find the only true fulfillment in life, and that’s a growing personal relationship with God’s Son, Jesus Christ.
